The Day when Mumbai's Nerves Broke...

Ya. It happened. The local train (nerves of the city) services were suspended for a good 30 hours between Thane and Ghatkopar due to an accident near Thane railway stations. As a result, the back up nerves (LBS Road and Eastern Express Highway) got flooded with people, and the central suburbans literally stood still. Additional bus services were added between Kurla and Thane, Kalyan and Thane, Vashi and Thane etc and I was lucky to see double decker services plying in the LBS Road. The LBS Road which runs parallel to the Eastern Express Highway was packed with vehicles on both directions, and I had to walk from Kanjurmarg to Bhandup to get out of the crawling traffic. After that the situation was better, traffic speed increased from crawling to walking rate, and it took me another hour to reach Theen Hath Naka, Thane. Usually it takes me around 1 hour 30 minutes to reach home, but yesterday, it took around 3 hours. Police where trying to accommodate commuters in whichever vehicles possible. It was real chaos. Hope such a situation never arises again.
